CHINA — When Your Company Meet the “born after 80s”
We experience the same situation as many other entrepreneur meet. In my company, there are over 90% employees born after 80s, who sometimes act quite unbelievable, like the Monkey King in the Chinese traditional old stories The Journey to the West,
After years of working together with them, I found it won’t be work just using iron wrist; you have to dig out the right way to motivate their passion and enthusiasm, build their responsibilities and team work spirits. Their loyalty might be basically relied on self-accomplishment satisfaction. So we should saturate each employee with our corporate culture with strong belief and constant effort, as the Chinese old saying goes “water constantly dripping wears holes in stone”.
Put Weight on Self-Success Less Team Spirit
Different from those “born after 60s or 70s”, the “born after 80s” group seem chasing pleasure, thought actively, venture innovation, etc. However, they lack the important team work spirit, ignorant of thanksgiving, those so called individuality diluted the corporate centralized force, what’s worse, put unexpected pressure to the company’s future development.
We ever developed some tests in order to obtain more understanding about the “born after 80s”. We handed one task to five people together, but none would like to be leaded,
finally the team failed to meet the target. Where after, we just delivered the same task to a single person, who would rather work overtime to accomplish his final success.
According to this test, we category the job positions into 3 centers and 13 teams, different teams authorized with different responsibilities and guided by each team leaders. Individually, but focus on the same duty—that’s the essence of our strategy.
Couldn’t Bear Frustration Job-Jumping Frequently
Those “born after 80s”, who hold strong self-esteem are not ready to stoop to any compromise and do have the disposition of non-obedience.
Actually, we need a WAY to develop a motivating system to build an open community environment, where respect, accomplishment and motivation could be reached to fully satisfy these young guys. Strong ideal and belief just like a bright lamp to head them the right direction.
Indeed, unassailable rules should be applied in addition to the tolerance enlightening method which to let them know the corporate construction system is the bottom line and cannot be wicked. It might be the best way to build up manager’s prestige if he/she could clearly demarcate the rewards and punishment.
Overconfident Reach Beyond Grasp
Most “born after 80s” prefer to join in the well-known enterprise, but they overconfident and would like to reach beyond their grasp, less of the actual working ability, which might contribute a lot to their frustration.
Some of our employees who got a famous university’s master degree complain that they were once the elite in school, but feel limit chance to show their abilities when out of school and to be a corporate member.
While the daily routine tasks, which may seem a bit unessential, actually act as a very good way to let the new starters fully understand the general operation of the new business and comfort them to adjust the new environment. As the Chinese saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with single step.
Those young” born after 80s” don’t lack the courage but patient, not lack of wisdom but self-control ability. The essence to what they need is heartsease, calmness, modest, and what’s more diligence to achieve their final successes.
