The logistics service has never been as demanding as today in China. As more and more clients want their items to be delivered to the right people, at the right time, to the right place, logistic giants such as DHL, UPS are facing the fiercest competition in China market. When asked about how will this affect their recruitment plan, Sue Wang, senior consultant of logistic sector says: ”it opens so many great opportunities as well as so many challenges in logistic market.”
Unlike the past, when most global logistic companies focus only on international transportation, with the demands for lower cost and better client services, they are now putting more emphasis on the domestic business in China. “One-stop” service is in highly demand by the clients, therefore, so many international freight forwarding companies logistics and supply chain functions into their business, to provide clients with one stop and just in time total solutions. “DHL is an example for this,” says Sue, “DHL now combined international forwarding supply chain service, warehouse and distribution into one organization, in order to empower the company competitiveness in the market.”
Such rapid development have created so many vacancies in the domestic business sector, positions in warehouse and distribution are in great demands, such as sales & marketing, Business development, operation management, etc. It has been estimated by Antal that with the 30% increase each year, the vacancies will be 6 millions in the whole logistic industry and up until 2010; just the sales and marketing and operation discipline alone will need at least 30,000 people. “The problem is, however,” Sue says, “there are so few qualified talents in the Third Party logistic companies.” As in the past, most production and manufacturing business chose to do their logistic themselves, and talents in 3 PL with domestic practice are still in great shortage.
“We can say that in today’s China, the fast development has created so great opportunities and so many challenges as well,” as put by Sue, “even with so many attractive offers from the logistic giants, the candidates with both international mind set and local practice experience are in great shortage, and this situation will continue to be like this in the next 5 years.”
