Il fenomeno del Private Label
Posted in the Italy category on January 28, 2009

Mercato IT 2009: Adelante, presto, con juicio
Posted in the Italy category on January 28, 2009
Possiamo empiricamente classificare i nostri interlocutori in quattro categorie: positivisti, realisti, imbrigliati e attendisti.

Middle East Markets – Economic Overview
Posted in the Global category on January 27, 2009
The economies of the Middle East are built on oil and gas. And while they are sure to be affected by the current financial crisis, the Gulf States are in a good position to ride out the economic storm.

Situated at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and Asia, the Middle East has been an important commercial centre since the dawn of commerce. In its broadest sense the Middle East refers to south western Asia and north eastern Africa, stretching from Iran in the East to Libya in the West. But in terms of international business and the recruitment sector, the Arabian Peninsula is of key importance. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia have all benefited hugely from the region’s natural oil reserves. UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain have also gone further in opening their economies to the West than some of their neighbours and are now home to many foreign nationals attracted by low taxation and a warm climate. With the most developed Western-style economies, this supplement will focus on the United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as well as Qatar which is fast emerging as an important market for the future. Antal China in Recruiter (News Feature)
National responses to a global crisis
Robert Parkinson, managing director of China for Antal International, which recruits primarily in the finance, sales,
manufacturing and HR sectors, told Recruiter consultants have had to change their approach as the market becomes tougher: “Whereas a year ago you could make placements at the drop of a hat, now you do have to have skill and be quite good.” Parkinson said that in response the company has had to “trim” some people and re-train staff.
“We are looking at performance much more — at weaker performers and how quickly they can be productive for us. We are training people more on things like client management — it has gone from being a transactionbased business to a business where it really does matter how you manage the relationships.”

E.g. in the purchasing line, she set up a new position named quality manager to monitor the turnover bonus of the sourcing staff, etc.

Are you ready for a Jobs Depression
Posted in the China category on January 20, 2009
Most fear to even to use the word “depression,” but now is the time for corporate HR to begin thinking about such an eventuality. As most people know, there are two key economic drivers that impact our economy: 1) productivity (product and service output) and 2) employment.
Both government and corporate leaders have under-emphasized the role of the job market in the economic downturn, the time has come that we must consider the real possibility that the job market will move from a recession into a depression.

“Our aim is to be the first to recover from the financial crisis. We must have faith and determination,” Wen said on a tour of export powerhouse Jiangsu province over the weekend.
The government will put forward a series of new measures, which top policymakers are working on, before the annual session of the National People’s Congress that begins on March 5, he said.

Counter offers!! ……. Friend or Foe??
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 8, 2009
In today’s market overcoming the obstacle of finding high caliber ‘rising stars’ (see the article by consultant Faye Longhurst) is a very difficult task in deed!
With unemployment and redundancy figures increasing there is most certainly a larger choice of candidates available, however, as we have all experienced this does not necessarily mean the quality is available! In today’s market it is crucial to source high caliber professionals that will benefit your organisation, this of course is a timely and daunting task for anyone.
Finding that ‘Rising Star’ is like a breath of fresh air or a weight lifted, however, as the competition gets tougher the volume of ‘counter offers’ increase making the final stages of the recruiting process a nail biting experience!
As these are more common in today’s climate I would like to highlight some of the factors resulting in counter offers being made and felt it necessary to draw your attention to the causes and effects of counter offers. These are honest comments made by clients and candidates when discussing counter offers.
APC Marketing and Sector Shots
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 7, 2009
Here at Antal International we use both traditional recruiting methods, whereby a candidate is found when a vacancy arises, and new methods, whereby a candidate that fits our ‘A.P.C.’ or ‘Rising Star’ profile is taken to you, the client.
These ‘A.P.C.’s’ have attributes that make them stand apart from the rest of the crowd. Once identified we place them in companies that are not necessarily looking for new employees, but recognise that the attributes we have found will be of value to them.
A.P.C. marketing is very specific, and so you will not be receiving candidates who are irrelevant to your company. See below for a definition of what an A.P.C. is, and what we, at Antal, will endeavour to give you.
The art of the interview process.
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 7, 2009
One of the most important aspects of a recruiter’s role in today’s market, an aspect that is sadly overlooked by the average consultant- is the interview process, between consultant and candidate and crucially, candidate and employer. From numerous potential employers, the familiar annoyance with recruiters seems to be- the volume of CVs sent to the employer with seemingly no thought put into why they are being sent. The candidates skill set often bears no resemblance to the specific instructions of the employer. This scattergun approach is not only at odds with our technique at Antal, but will guarantee placements will not occur as consistently as the needs of the employer, often explicitly construed to the consultant- have not been heeded and therefore, the consultant is discredited as being atypical of recruiters, in the most negative way possible.
Local Recruitment, Applied Globally.
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 7, 2009
In these troubled economic times companies are looking for the magic formula that will not only save money, but will also leave the company in a position to both weather the current troubles and take full advantage and grow rapidly when the outlook brightens.
The benefits of recruiting on an international level are numerous. Often it involves immediate cost reductions as salaries in many parts of the world are clearly significantly less than in the United Kingdom. As well as this, there is the added benefit of growing a company’s international presence, which, as well as enhancing their revenue stream, also acts as a hedge against localised economic downturns.
(Bez)sensowna kontroferta
Posted in the Poland category on January 7, 2009
Zatrzymać pracownika czy poz wo lić mu odejść?
Jeszcze kilka mie s ięcy temu można było mówić o silnym rynku kandydata w Polsce. Wzrost produkcji , emigracja zarobkowa, niewystarczająca liczba absolwentów spowodowały braki kadry specjali stycznej i menedżerskiej . Kandydaci mogli przebierać w ofertach. Dla pracodawców często oznaczało to stanięcie przed wyborem: pozwolić odejść dobremu pracownikowi czy wyjść z kontrofertą? Zwiększyć budżet i zatrzymać specjalistę?
Harnessing Talent – China Daily
Posted in the China category on January 6, 2009
Chinese enterprises that found themselves falling behind the talent rush in the past should take heart from the global economic slowdown as it presents a golden opportunity for them to recruit qualified and experienced executives and professionals from around the world.
Of course, talent doesn’t come cheap, human resources experts say. But it is at least available as more and more US and European multinational companies are going into the retrenchment mode to cut costs.
Human resources experts are of the view that the layoff strategies are”short-sighted” and costly in the longer term. When the economy begins to turn the corner and embark on a new cycle, these corporations will have to offer unusually high salaries and attractive incentives to compete for the talented personnel they laid off.
Market Observations
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 5, 2009
Multinational high demand short supply skills are still sort after in many sectors, making this an employee driven market in technical and engineering disciplines.
There are more demands for this talented group from exciting overseas opportunities making the market smaller at a time when many thought the market was opening up.
Be like Manchester United or Barcelona and understand the Cost of Recruitment
Posted in the United Kingdom category on January 5, 2009
Many organisations are focused on short term cost savings and miss out on being exposed to those individuals who can make them competitive and unique at a time when being different is key to winning new business.
If you want access to the entire labour pool rather than just the best of who is looking, then companies should think about paying the fees for professionals to segment the market to seek out those high calibre individuals. These individuals are unlikely to be actively looking for a new opportunity and need to be carefully enticed away by a third party who has the skills to do this.
